What I liked:This is back to the full on angst and emotional punch of book one, though this time focused on A'yen's linked bodyguard, Ro. And this is a torturous, no-holds-barred look at the pain, humiliation and brutality experienced by those considered lowest on the Lokmane slaves. Ro's blue ink mark him as not only open for the use and abuse of any human, but hatred and distrust from his own people. In this universe, you can't come any lower than a sex slave. If anyone deserves a happily ever after, it's Ro, and despite everything, despite his own conviction he's unworthy of even a moment of kindness, he's a good man.
What I didn't like:
Nothing.
In conclusion:
This is a huge step back up from book two in terms of emotional punch and action, while still moving the politics forward. It's also moved from focusing on A'yen and Farran to Ro, though both men will are put through hell. The bedroom scenes are all closed doors, but you are left in no doubt about the absolute torture Ro is put through, an example of the all too common treatment of his people in this universe. If you like to see your heroes tortured beyond your endurance but with a HFN, in a rich, complex and well-drawn out future universe, this is the book for you.

This book 3 is da bomb, too! I am blown away by this talented, young new Indie author! ... Be prepared for an emotional roller-coaster ride as each unique, yet connected book she writes is literally out of this world ;) ... Even tho I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review, I honestly love this and the previous 2 books in this series ) ... However, I strongly recommend that you read them in order ) ... Also, make sure you have plenty of time to read these addictive stories, coz they keep the reader engaged & the pages turning like crazy o lol ... Better add all 3 of these must read books to your wish list now, or hey- go buy them & get started on a fantastic journey of the mind full of romantic fantasy with suspense & drama, sci-fi at its best! Yes, this book is about A'yen, but in reality this is Ro's story. Ro is a powerful Me, and tattooed as a sex slave, trapped by an evil, sadistic human. He's being used to destroy any attempts for the Lokmane to be free on their home planet. But what those who are out to end what has begun, is that Ro is done being a pawn. With Jasmyn's help, Ro learns to overcome who he was and be who is.
Another powerful installment in this series. Smith pulls no punches, putting both A'yen and Ro through the wringer, and bringing them out better men in the end. Redemption and forgiveness, in yourself and in others, are the strong themes running through the book.
Read these books in order, so you can better enjoy the progression from slavery to freedom.
Rachel Leigh Smith's "To Save a Life" is the third book in her A'yen's Legacy series. It’s an interesting science fiction romance series. Sort of “Stargate” meets “In Distress” by Caethes Faron (which is a M/M read that’s very well done). This time we get to have a more in depth look at Ro. Ro has been marked as a sex slave and he can get into minds. Once again, all of the characters are amazingly deep and the story line has lots of complex twists and turns. Many of the intimate scenes are done with a more closed door approach, describing the beginning of the act or using only vague terms. Some readers prefer that, but I like a little more naughty stuff! There will be a #4 and I can't wait to read it.

Loved the first book and I have not been disappointed yet with the rest of the books in the series. This series is worth reading!
This story is about A'yen's bodyguard Ro. He lashes out with his power and subdues some men who would harm his girlfriend. Unfortunately, when one of the men is later found dead, it back lashes on Ro. He is tried for murder, and then the unthinkable happens.
That's all I'm going to say about the plot or I might give away some surprises. All and all a gripping read of a complex character.
Loved all the 3 books. Can't wait to read the 4th.
